The Whole Person Concept

Hello, I'm Ian Green, the 2021 MDRT President. The Whole Person concept isn't a one-time piece of learning, it's a lifelong goal. It isn't something that can be achieved overnight, it's an intentional journey. It's the practice of consistently bettering ourselves and those we come into contact with, and our environment as a whole. It's making the most of our skills and talents by helping others, giving back to communities, and leaving our mark on the world by doing what we can, by giving back, and empowering others to make a change.

Since the 1961 MDRT Annual Meeting, when Dr. Mortimer J. Adler introduced the Whole Person concept, MDRT's been committed to helping our members understand the values and benefits of balancing their lives in seven key areas. Relationships, health, education, career, service, financial, and spiritual. Achieving a balanced lifestyle has many benefits, including peace of mind, increased productivity, and a sense of personal and professional fulfillment. MDRT has many resources to help you achieve this work/life balance.

You could start by taking the Whole Person quiz to determine if there are any imbalances currently in your life. Within your committees, divisions and small partnerships, I'd also encourage you to establish a study group to embrace these new concepts and provide accountability for your Whole Person based goals. Remember to visit the Resource Zone, there you will find articles, videos, blogs, and podcasts, and more all of which introduce, teach, and help you incorporate the Whole Person concept into your life. Take a minute to review the attached Whole Person brochure and complete the quiz. And then this year reward yourself and others by embracing, practicing as being a Whole Person.
