Working Collaboratively

Hello, I'm MDRT President Randy Scritchfield and I'd like to share one of my leadership touch points. Today, the topic is working collaboratively. You've probably heard the saying, "There's no I in team." That is because all people, including leaders, achieve so much more together and they typically do so in faster and smarter ways.

Individuals who embrace collaborative leadership recognize the importance of interpersonal and cross-functional relationships to organizational success. Why is collaboration so important? It brings people closer together, builds trust, and boosts morale. It helps people learn from each other and opens our minds to new and different perspectives. It enables collective problem solving as people share their very knowledge, skills, and expertise, which gives everyone a sense of belonging and purpose.

Working collaboratively is essential and integral to MDRT operations. Your Executive Committee works with the Global Council, Global Council Members partner with their committee chairs, and committee chairs work with their committee members. Committees also collaborate across divisions, working together to accomplish our goals. Let's not forget the regular collaboration with our staff liaisons as well.

As you work with your committees, I encourage you to embrace a collaborative leadership style, enable and empower everyone to share concepts and perspectives and embrace opportunities that will strengthen the partnerships between members and committees. Effective MDRT leaders do not do everything on their own. They make the most of our human capital by collaborating for collective success. Make that your mission.
